Make a difference with these great resources

During the summer, aquatic safety is more important than ever!
That’s why PDRMA offers many resources to help members spread the word.

Aquatic Public Service Announcements

PDRMA continues to broadcast our 30-second public service announcement (PSA) titled Swim Smart, Swim Safe — airing throughout Illinois this summer. The PSA uses young adults and children to emphasize the importance of parental supervision at aquatic facilities and the need to follow aquatic facility rules. Also available is a 30-second PSA with a more serious tone — focused on drowning risks and how to prevent them.

Last year, the PSA broadcasts reached more than 1 million homes. This summer, it’s running once again on the Comcast Cable Network throughout Northern and Central Illinois. PDRMA has chosen to air it on the Nickelodeon and Toon networks, to reach parents and children who may be preparing to visit their local public pools.

The PSA was shown over the Memorial Day weekend and will again be shown over the July 4th weekend, as well as during the final aquatic facility weeks prior to Labor Day.

If your agency would like to show the 30-second Aquatic Safety PSA on your local cable network, or at your aquatic facility on a video system, contact your PDRMA Risk Management Consultant.

Aquatic Safety Posters and Pamphlets

Drowning is a leading cause of unintentional injury related death to children 14 and under. The PDRMA public drowning prevention awareness campaign has been organized to address this issue and increase guardian supervision of children in our aquatic facilities.

To increase public safety and drowning prevention awareness, PDRMA provides members with aquatic safety posters and pamphlets. These help inform parents about their responsibilities in supervising children at public aquatic facilities, emphasizing that lifeguards are there to enforce rules and respond to emergencies — not babysit.

The poster and brochures are designed in full, eye-catching color, and the posters are laminated to protect them in the aquatic environment. They are also available in Spanish. PDRMA recommends that at least one poster be mounted in a prominent location at your aquatic facility and that the brochures be distributed to season pass holders, large groups, at rentals, and at the front counter.

The posters and pamphlets are available to PDRMA Property/Casualty Program members at no cost by contacting KimMarie Trostle at 630-435-8934.
