Q. What is Be Safe at Work and Play?
Recently published studies indicate that efforts to reduce work-related injuries, home injuries and improve wellness are interrelated. In recognition of these findings, PDRMA has developed the program, Be Safe at Work and Play, to help our members reach out to their employees and volunteers and advance an organizational culture of safety and wellness. While this multi-year initiative will have many components, including contests and fun activities, our focus is to share leading-edge safety and wellness practices with our members. Our hope is that the workplace can serve as an important classroom to teach safety and wellness principles that individuals will embrace and take home with them to their families.
Q. Why should I be concerned about safety outside the workplace?
As someone who understands that your employees are your most important asset, keeping them safe and healthy has many important benefits beyond the obvious. When employees are ill or injured and cannot perform their job, the rest of the team has to fill in, straining resources and adding stress to the workplace. Service levels to your patrons may slip and your reputation as a public service may suffer. It doesn't matter why your employee isn't at work. The results remain the same.
Q. How can we help people be safe when they're away from work?
Obviously, we can't expect safety rules or enforcement to extend beyond the scope of work. But Be Safe at Work and Play is not about rules or enforcement. It's about sharing vital information with employees in a practical way that helps them adopt healthier, safer ways of living. As employees incorporate these principles into their lifestyles, we feel it will only be natural for them to want to share these principles with the people they care about.
Q. We already practice safety in the workplace. How is this different?
Be Safe at Work and Play will give you important information and tools to enhance the safety programs you already have in place. For example, PDRMA has an extensive library of resource documents and safety videos that can be incorporated into your employee orientation and training programs. There's no need to develop or purchase your own policies, procedures or videos, because as a member of PDRMA, these service are available at no additional cost to members. And we're continually adding resources. In the future, you can look for educational materials that can be distributed to employees including posters, seminars and more.
Q. My schedule is already stretched to the limit. Does this mean more work for me?
Absolutely not. Our materials are developed in ways that you'll be able to easily incorporate them into your existing employee training programs. More important, we think the lessons learned in these materials will prevent injuries, saving you the stress of worker absenteeism.
Q. How much do these programs cost?
As a valued member of PDRMA, all these programs and services are available for your use at no additional cost. In addition, we're providing some fun stuff, like contests and giveaways.
