RMI 2014 — Respect the Risk, Accept the Responsibility
PDRMA’s 2014 Risk Management Institute (RMI) — Oct. 3 at the Tinley Park Convention Center — offers a full slate of valuable information, dynamic speakers, fun new activities and exciting programs.
CEO Brett Davis looks at what we’ve accomplished together as PDRMA celebrates its 30th anniversary and how, by respecting risk and accepting responsibility, we can minimize liability and protect member assets, keep staff safe and well on the job and outside of work, and ensure patron safety. Dan Thurmon, from Off Balance on Purpose, explores the elements of risk in a unique way and looks at how to approach them intelligently.
With morning and afternoon breakout sessions — as well as two mega sessions designed to accommodate larger audiences — there is a wide variety of topics to choose from. A Supervisor’s Role in Leading Injury Prevention explores the key role supervisors play in modeling positive behaviors, implementing safety practices and providing coaching/feedback to their staff. Presenters Dr. Jim Clapper, Occupational Injury Prevention, and Jesse Kinsland, PDRMA Risk Management Consultant, identify the supervisor’s role in the injury prevention process and in the Core Six employee safety functions.
Distracted Driving — Impact on Employee Safety, Productivity and Employer Liability is one of two mega sessions and can accommodate 300 attendees. David Teater, Senior Director of Transportation Initiatives with the National Safety Council, discusses the science of distracted driving, technological solutions, the legislative environment and how distracted driving can change a life forever. This session includes a no-cost sample policy and training resources.
This year, the RMI begins with an opportunity for members to join PDRMA staff from 7 to 8 a.m. for a Morning Walking Group or Sunrise Yoga*. Both events are at the Tinley Park - Park District Bettenhausen Recreation Center and include use of locker room facilities.
“We’re offering everyone a great opportunity to include wellness in their day with a morning walk or yoga,” says Lauren Mucker, PDRMA Wellness Consultant. “Either activity is a great way to get your day moving, meet new people, network and enjoy some fresh air. And we hope it encourages everyone to make wellness part of their routine every day.”
Mucker, along with Wellness Consultant Leslie Reid, will offer the 2015 PDRMA Wellness — Positive Activities Toward Health (PATH) session Friday morning. Scheduled to debut in 2015, this sneak peek of PATH introduces the online wellness program and enhanced incentive structure that will help participants more easily incorporate wellness into their day-to-day activities on and off the job.
Other RMI breakout sessions include:
- A Safe Behavior 4 the Right Reasons (mega session) — Dale Lesinski, Dival Safety Equipment, talks about how to appeal to what comes naturally in terms of basic human instincts to make staff Safe 4 the Right Reasons.
- Stretching Out! Making Stretching Part of Your Workplace — Dr. Jim Clapper, Occupational Injury Prevention, works along with PDRMA Risk Management Consultant Jackie Pierce to demonstrate how easily stretching programs can be incorporated into an agency’s injury prevention program — and how effective they are.
- Using Technology to Support Your Risk Management Program — Learn how to use both internal and external technology-based resources to help improve your agency’s loss and exposure risk management programs. Patty Maher, PDRMA Training and Development Supervisor, co-presents along with Dane Mall, PDRMA Manager of Risk Management Services.
