The 2019 aquatic season begins soon, and PDRMA wants you to be prepared. If you haven't yet listened to our Preparing Your Camp for Aquatic Facility Visits webinar, please do. And be sure to have the resources you need to keep staff and patrons safe by placing your order with PDRMA as soon as possible. Please click here to download the Aquatics Resource Order Form and email it to Britney Gillespie, PDRMA's Risk Management Project Coordinator.
Lifeguard Vision Screening
Lifeguard vision screening is a long-standing best practice for aquatic season, and PDRMA encourages members to take advantage of this program run by Vizual Edge in Vernon Hills. If you complete all lifeguard screenings within 30 days of opening day at your aquatic facility, your agency pays no fee to Vizual Edge.
Submit a request to Vizual Edge for online account access along with the number of screenings you do each year, but remember that you may choose to use your existing username and password. Complete the form on page 3 of LRN #330 for 2019, and follow the instructions for submitting it to Vizual Edge. A professional eye care practitioner will review the results within 48 hours.
Please email Kathy at Vizual Edge if you have any questions about your online account or ordering kits. For questions about PDRMA's participation in the vision screening program, please contact Britney Gillespie.
Another best-practice component is PDRMA's Lifeguard Audit Program. This reimbursement program covers the cost of agencies' annual audits when successfully completed. The number of sections passed during the audit determines the agency's reimbursement amount. The number of summer aquatic audits vary by member, location and vendor, and scheduled by vendor according to weather conditions and other factors. Direct your questions about specific lifeguarding observations, skills and facility criteria to the appropriate contact at Jeff Ellis and Associates, StarGuard Elite or Counsilman-Hunsaker for American Red Cross.
