H.E.L.P Is Coming — in a New Format
One of PDRMA’s most popular classes is being updated to include online modules as well as a live class component.
”The H.E.L.P. class has always been very popular with members, but their feedback said the three-day live course was a challenge for them to schedule,” says Bill Hooker, PDRMA Training Program Supervisor. “Our goal was to create a hybrid course that would require only two days of classroom instruction.”
In September, PDRMA Education and Training will introduce the new H.E.L.P class, which splits the H.E.L.P. Essentials of Human Resources course into online and classroom segments. The online portion has two modules with 11 total topics, each including a quiz. The topics average between 25 and 40 minutes each, requiring approximately six-to-eight hours to complete the online program.
You must successfully complete both online modules to be eligible to register for the two-day classroom segment on the PDRMA website.
Online Modules
Online Module 1 covers “Essentials of Employment Law and Personnel Policy.” Participants learn details about employment related laws, policies and procedures. Topics include Equal Employment Opportunity laws, unemployment compensation, workers' compensation, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, workplace harassment, child labor laws and more.
Module 2 covers “Recruiting and Hiring,” which includes legalities in interviewing, background checks and screening applicants.
Classroom Modules
Modules 3 to 5 feature interactive learning that reinforces previous lessons and introduces important management topics. The first day covers Module 3, which reviews lessons from previous modules before moving on to “Performance Management and Assessment.”
The second full day begins with Module 4, "Balancing Employee Rights and Discipline," in the morning and covers Module 5, "Bringing it All Together," in the afternoon. Module 4 identifies and explores employee rights and how to balance them within a fair and progressive discipline system, while “Bringing It All Together” is a fun and interactive session that lets the participants demonstrate their skills and learning.
“H.E.L.P. has been a core PDRMA training program since 2003, with more than 3,000 members having completed it,” adds Hooker. “This format change, along with these latest updates, should meet member needs for years to come.” |
