New Training: A Practical Look at OSHA Compliance
The Illinois Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) establishes safe working conditions by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance. The ground it covers is extensive. Members will recognize topics like handling and cleaning up blood-borne pathogens; slip, trip and fall prevention; personal protective equipment; confined space standards; compliance reporting; and posters. Many people do not realize it, but public sector organizations in Illinois do not fall under the federal OSHA program, because the state of Illinois has OSHA jurisdiction.
“OSHA standards and directives can seem overwhelming to those who don’t deal with them on a regular basis,” says Bill Hooker, PDRMA Training Programs Supervisor. “It’s very important for key member representatives to seek out continuing education on OSHA-related topics that address specific exposures at their agencies.”
Members must continuously look their OSHA-related job tasks and create an implementation plan to prioritize programming to prevent injuries and promote safety. To help members, Hooker hosted a webinar on Oct. 10. Click here to listen to A Practical Look at Implementing OSHA.
This one-hour webinar delves into which OSHA standards may apply to your agency and includes a discussion of the practical issues you encounter in creating and implementing OSHA-compliance programs.
