HELP Is 15 Years Old — and Updated
For the past 15 years, PDRMA’s Essentials of Human Resources (HR) Curriculum has helped members navigate the changing currents of rules and regulations in HR. “You don’t have to have the words ‘human resources’ in your job title to benefit,” points out Bill Hooker, PDRMA Training Programs Supervisor. “Understanding state and federal laws as well as best practices is everyone’s job — especially supervisors.”
Most recently PDRMA updated its five-module HELP — Essentials of Human Resources training program to a blended format that includes two online modules followed by two days of classroom training. “The blended approach gives members the convenience of online learning plus the chance to network with peers during the classroom sessions,” Hooker says.
Members must complete the two online modules before attending the classroom sessions. Modules 1 and 2 provide supervisors with an understanding of the legal and best-practice elements of employment law, including recruiting and hiring techniques. The classroom portion of the program, modules 3 and 4, include lecture and case studies covering performance management, disciplining/terminating staff and recognizing when to call PDRMA for help.
Remember that the new HELP format requires an employee to complete all online learning prior to being able to register for a regional HELP classroom program. Be sure to complete your online training soon, so you can register for the class that best fits your schedule.
There is also a new voice handling calls to PDRMA’s HELPLine. Sara Yager, PDRMA’s Deputy General Counsel, now provides employment liability counsel to members.
