Spring Training Brought to You Virtually

Spring Training Brought to You Virtually

Based on COVID-19’s continued impact, PDRMA has decided to suspend all regional instructor-led training classes through at least August 2021. In the meantime, we’ll continue to monitor Illinois Department of Public Health metrics, mitigation measures and member/vendor feedback to determine when to resume those classes.

Although hands-on training and in-person networking are two very valuable parts of live training classes, everyone’s safety needs to come first. PDRMA is updating the fall calendar for regional programs and continues to offer a combination of webinars, eLearning and downloadable resources to keep you up-to-date and prepared for the season. Feel free to reach out to your Risk Management Consultant to discuss options and activities that fulfill your needs.

Our Hot Topics, Updates and Best Practices Discussion for Claims Contacts webinar, April 30, covers trends in claims and an overview of OSHA reporting timelines and responsibilities. It also allows for a Q&A period at the end.

As you prepare programs and parks for spring and summer activities, be sure your supervisors and staff review Core 6 principles and other guidelines to enjoy a safe season. You’ll find Core 6 videos, signs, strategy cards and policy and training guides on the PDRMA website.

Spotlight on Resources

  • The Core 6 Approach to Safe MowingEnglish/Spanish. This concise video points out the keys to safe and ergonomic operation of heavy equipment. A 30 second walk-around, the right equipment, smart lifting technique and other Core 6 principles can keep staff safe while keeping lawns and walks trim.
  • Defensive Driving Trainer Materials — Van/Bus and General. (Contact PDRMA for files.) Although everyone thinks they are a good driver, there’s more to it than just years behind the wheel. PDRMA has videos, PowerPoint presentations, training exercises and manuals to help your agency train drivers on good safety habits even before they start the vehicle.
  • Reasonable Suspicion Drug and Alcohol Training for Supervisors NonCDL. This 90-minute recorded webinar has an accompanying handout and observation form to guide managers through determining whether there’s a need for reasonable suspicion testing.

For those of you wondering if we’ll host a 2021 Risk Management Institute this fall, the answer is yes! But it will be in a virtual format. We’re currently identifying topics, speakers and delivery options — so stay tuned!
