Time to Get into the Swim

As the weather warms, park district patrons can hardly wait to get into the pool! Before they do, however, aquatic managers need to prepare their facilities and train their employees to ensure visitor safety.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report drowning is the second largest cause of death-from-injury among those 1-to-14 years old. To prepare for the 2024 aquatic season, PDRMA offers videos, training guides and handbooks — plus.

This year, you can use your Vizual Edge online account to place orders for kits! Complete the PDRMA Request Form — do not use order forms from previous years — and take advantage of our Lifeguard Vision Program for the 2024 aquatic season.

Once you conduct your screenings, submit the results online to validate the tests. The online vision screening portal includes instructions, vision charts and follow-up forms that lifeguards who do not pass the initial vision screening take to their eye care practitioner for further evaluation.

“You can complete the vision screening for each lifeguard in just a few minutes,” Kyle Saros, PDRMA Risk Management Consultant says, “and a Vizual Edge specialist reviews the results within two business days. It’s very streamlined.

Vizual Edge PDRMA Request Form“To receive lifeguard vision screening from PDRMA at no additional cost, you must complete all lifeguard screenings within 30 days of opening day at your aquatic facility,” he explains. “Vizual Edge will invoice PDRMA directly for your agency’s participation in vision screening.”
