RM Grants — Enter before the Rush

A Friday, Sept. 6, deadline may seem too far away to apply now for a Risk Management grant, but it’s never too soon to start thinking outside the box — and earn cash for your agency!

“Getting an early start gives you time to consider several approaches to risk management issues, field test them and pick the best one — or two,’’ observes Lindsey Robertson, PDRMA Risk Management Consultant.

At stake? Cash grants ranging from $250 to $2,500 to help put those ideas into practice, buy new equipment, save time and money, and reduce risks for visitors and employees.

“Each year we’re impressed by the know-how and observational skills of our members,” Robertson says, “not to mention their inventiveness. They continue to one-up themselves year after year, so we’re looking forward to seeing the 2024 grant applications.”

Members have until Friday, Sept. 6, to submit up to two applications that ingeniously improve safety at their agency. The Risk Management Committee reviews all applications before choosing the winners, up to an annual maximum award of $15,000.

You can use grant money to purchase anything from new ergonomic devices for maintenance workers or go-bags for an emergency evacuation to salt-spreader additions to heavy equipment. The real win, though, is the way an agency’s search for solutions contributes to a thriving safety culture.

Every idea is worth considering, according to Robertson. The payoff for the couple hours spent putting your grant idea to paper can be a cash grant as well as a safer agency for everyone.
