PDRMA introduced new and updated training earlier this month, along with the launch of our improved Online Learning Center (OLC) interface. Some resources are available in the OLC, a few are via virtual classroom, and others you can access on the PDRMA website. Please read about the topics, formats and audiences below and watch for training emails in the months ahead.

There’s no time like the present to start getting ready for the spring season, so consider registering for these upcoming courses on our Training Calendar.

  • A Supervisor’s Role in Managing Risk in Parks and Recreation — Feb. 25 — Risk management is everyone’s job, and this course helps supervisors to executive directors understand the trade-off of risk and potential return.
  • A Supervisor’s Role in Coaching Injury Prevention — March 4 and April 14 — Supervisors play a key role in creating safety culture by modeling positive behaviors, demonstrating best practices and coaching staff.
  • HELP 1 — Essentials of Human Resources Curriculum — March 8 – 10 — HELP 1 has taught more than 4,500 supervisors how to manage complex HR functions including evaluating staff performance, understanding employment law, handling difficult issues and knowing when to call PDRMA.
  • OSHA 10-hour Training — March 30 – 31 — Knowing and following Illinois Occupational Health and Safety Administration standards ensures compliance with state law and, more importantly, enhances employee safety and minimizes injuries.

  • Core 6 Principles and Application Video (Updated) — 3 minutes
    Available in both English and Spanish, this animated video is an update to PDRMA’s Core 6 orientation video for new employees, seasonal staff, risk managers, Safety Coordinators, supervisors and human resources managers.
  • 3 Points of Contact Videos — Aquatics and Recreation (Updated) — 2 minutes each
    These 3 Points of Contact videos — part of our Core 6 educational series — are now animated. They are for aquatics and recreation supervisors, part- and full-time staff and seasonal employees.
  • How PDRMA Membership Works for You (NEW) — 9 minutes
    This animated video covers the basics of belonging to a risk pool and how active engagement benefits all members. We designed it for Executive Directors and/or agency elected officials and management employees, but anyone who wants to learn more about PDRMA can view it.
  • Managing Emergencies Series (NEW) — 16 minutes
    This video series, in both English and Spanish, is for supervisors, part- and full-time staff as well as seasonal employees. It includes Active Shooter, Post Medical Emergencies Dos and Don’ts and Severe Weather topics.

  • Loss Reporting Staff Training (NEW) — Self-paced
    This eLearning course is for all staff, supervisors, Safety Coordinators and seasonal employees. It describes Property/Casualty coverages, how to determine which coverage applies to an incident and how to select, complete and submit the correct claim form.
  • PDRMA Membership Basics (NEW) — Self-paced
    This eLearning course is for Executive Directors and those in senior leadership positions. It describes core membership obligations such as pool governance, rates, Property/Casualty coverage and Health plan design.
  • Good Housekeeping (BLR training) — Self-paced
    Too many people think good housekeeping in the workplace just means sweeping up at the end of the shift. But it’s a lot more than that! Good housekeeping is the foundation of an effective accident prevention program at your agency. This eLearning course will teach you what you need to know to keep your workplace neat, clean and orderly.
  • Disaster Planning: What Employees Need to Know (BLR training) — Self-paced
    This eLearning course teaches employees what they can do to help prevent some disasters and reduce the catastrophic results of others. Learn how to stay on your toes and do exactly what you need to if a disaster strikes your agency.
  • New Employee Safety Orientation (BLR training) Now in English and Spanish — Self-paced
    No matter what your job is, it’s almost inevitable that you may be exposed to hazards. In this eLearning course, you’ll learn how to prevent some of the more common injuries resulting from poor safety practices and how to control and react to severe hazards in your workplace.

  • Delivering Training at Your Agency (NEW) — 2 hours+
    Presented in a virtual classroom, this course explains how supervisors, Safety Coordinators and those who conduct instructor-led training at their agencies can modify PDRMA training materials for their unique needs — and effectively facilitate group trainings.
  • HELP for New and Part-time Supervisors (NEW) — 2 hours+
    This focused course is for new supervisors and those who need to learn supervisory basics without attending the full-length HELP 1 or HELP 2 classes. A series of six videos (30 minutes total) highlights common HR challenges and the subsequent virtual classroom training (90 minutes) provides the opportunity for discussion and Q&A with a human resources advisor.
