PATH Q3 Challenge — World at Play

After getting a good night’s sleep, you might be in perfect shape to conquer our third-quarter PATH step challenge where the world is your playground!

The World at Play Challenge is a three-week virtual trek around the globe, where you’ll discover the many ways people spend their leisure time – playing rugby in New Zealand, glima wrestling in Iceland or fly fishing in Argentina.

Registration for the challenge begins Monday, July 25, and the challenge runs Aug. 1 through Aug. 21. Individual participants and teams of up to eight track their steps as they travel the world. The goal is to log at least 7,000 steps/day to reach all the destinations.

The top three teams and top three individuals will earn extra PATH points, and everyone who tracks 147,000 steps (7,000/day) by the end of the challenge earns 1,000 PATH points! (Don’t forget to sync your device to track your steps if you haven’t already done so.)

A lot of people don’t take sleep very seriously, but they should, according to the American Sleep Association, which states, “Healthy sleep habits set the scene for your overall well-being. Getting sufficient sleep doesn’t just help you feel better. It can also strengthen your memory, lower stress, help prevent disease and improve your mood!”

That’s why PATH offers a Sleep Guide to track your bedtime routine and hours of nightly sleep — so you can get more ZZZs. Even better, you earn PATH points for completing the guide!

The Sleep Guide helps build healthy sleep habits to improve both the length and quality of your sleep by tracking your sleep, setting realistic goals and using available resources. Being well rested allows you to focus better, be more productive and better able to take on the day!

You’ll get personalized recommendations, and the process is easy. Log in to PATH, go to the Health tab and choose Sleep Guide. Or on the app, go to Benefits and look for Sleep Guide on the programs list. Then complete these four steps:

1. Answer some sleep-related questions and tell PATH your sleep habit goals.

  • How do you want to improve your sleep?
  • Do you need tips on getting to bed earlier?
  • Help with quieting your mind?
  • Are you handling shift work?

2. Decide which sleep habits you want to address.

  • PATH will recommend a few research-based habits to improve sleep. You’ll get rewarded for trying them and tracking what you do.

3. Set a realistic goal for your hours of sleep per night.

  • Research recommends 7 to 9 hours of sleep, but some of us aren’t even close to that!
  • Set an achievable goal and start small.

4. How will you track your sleep?

  • Set up your Sleep Tracker or log your hours manually.
  • You can track your sleep using MaxBuzz ($25 on VP Store), Fitbit, Apple Health, Azumio, Garmin, Misfit or Withings.

If you’re looking for a distraction the next time you have trouble falling asleep or wake up long before your alarm is set to go off, maybe it’s time to complete the PATH Sleep Guide and discover how you can improve your sleep!
