2022 Training Comes into View

Before Winter Arrives, Take Advantage of These Trainings!

2022 Training Comes into View

Start the New Year off right with PDRMA training opportunities available in 2022. Whether you choose a refresher session, updated classes or new offerings, we have a mix of training options available in first and second quarter. Our offerings include web-based classes, recordings and on-site classes. (Consistent with state requirement and current recommendations, all attendees regardless of vaccination status must wear a face covering or mask when indoors at all training locations.)

Focus on Knowledge

  • How to Establish and Lead an Effective Safety Committee — Jan. 13 — We explore best practices to develop and maintain a Safety Committee that communicates your agency’s safety message and resolves issues. Learn by sharing information, internal practices and success stories with other PDRMA members via open microphone and on-camera conversations.
  • Exploring and Understanding Unconscious Bias (Web discussion) — Feb. 2 and April 8 — Are we on top of our biases, or might we be harboring some prejudices that lie outside our awareness? This session defines unconscious bias and gives us a framework in which to understand it.
  • Protect Your Property — Proactive Property Inspections (Web class) — Feb. 3 and March 24 Each year, PDRMA members experience losses from flooding, fire, freezing and severe weather, and vandalism. Learn how to protect your agency's facilities from these threats and maintain a safe environment for staff and the public.
  • Certificates of Insurance, What You Need to Know (Web class) — Feb. 13 and April 5 Learn when and how to request a certificate of insurance (COI) from outside contractors, groups and vendors by understanding COI terms and concepts.

Focus on the Supervisor

  • A Supervisor’s Role in Claims Reporting (Web class) — Feb. 3, 2022 — Supervisors play a key role in prompt and accurate reporting of agency claims. Join us for a discussion about how to report, investigate and follow up on claims.
  • HELP Essentials of Human Resources (On-site) — Feb. 15 and 16 — HELP 1 teaches supervisors how to manage human resources functions effectively while helping them understand their responsibilities in measuring staff performance, following employment law, hiring/disciplining/ terminating staff and recognizing when to call PDRMA for help.
  • A Supervisor’s Role in Managing Injury Prevention (On-site).
  • A Supervisor’s Role in Risk Management (On-site) Risk Management is not just the responsibility of your Safety Coordinator or Risk Manager. Everyone from supervisors to executive directors is a stakeholder and needs to understand the trade-off of risk and potential return.
  • OSHA 10 for Supervisors (On-site) PDRMA members operate under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Occupational Health Administration (ILOSHA). This 10-hour, two-day course helps attendees understand and follow applicable ILOSHA standards to ensure compliance with state law and — more importantly — enhance employee safety and minimize employee injuries.

Focus on Leadership

  • A Safer Tomorrow — Navigating the Future of Work (Recorded Webinar) A speaker from the National Safety Council brainstorms in 90 minutes what safety and health might look like in the workplaces of our future, including audience Q&A and participation.
  • Implementing OSHA for the SRA (Recorded Webinar) As public sector employers, Special Recreation Associations must maintain a safe working environment under Illinois OSHA, which complies with all federal OSHA standards.
  • OSHA and Safety Program Administration for Agency Leadership (On-site) The support and leadership of agency management impacts safety culture — positively or negatively. This course provides background in state regulatory requirements and safety topics to help leaders develop a strategic direction for the agency's safety culture and understand its necessity.

Focus on Self

  • Focus on Self: Keep Fit, Keep Safe (Web series) These one-hour, Web-based training sessions for employees focus on stretching and strengthening exercises plus ways to help reverse the impacts of aging and prevent workplace injury:
    • Keep Fit, Keep Safe — Office Staff — Jan. 11.
    • Keep Fit, Keep Safe — SRA Staff — Jan. 11.
    • Keep Fit, Keep Safe — Parks Staff — Feb. 9.
  • Living in Extraordinary (Stressful) Times and How to Create a Supportive Environment (Recorded Webinar) Click here to watch the video about stressful events that test us on a personal and professional level. The pandemic, social unrest and employment challenges have added stress to many lives. Learn how to identify the impact of these issues on personal and professional lives, use positive strategies for stress management and self-care, and create a culture of support, recognition and appreciation.

Online Learning Center (OLC)

The OLC will be shut down for maintenance beginning Dec. 31. Please remember to complete any courses in progress before that date. We will reopen the OLC by the end of January with a new and improved interface.

Coming Soon

  • HELP Essentials of Human Resources for New and Part-time Supervisors (Web class)
Delivered via a series of videos and a live Web class, this will be a new and abridged HELP program designed specifically for new, part-time and seasonal supervisors. It will provide core employment practices and human resources-related information.
