Editor’s Note: The HELP for New and Part-time Supervisors Mentoring Check-in session includes a nominal cost, now noted in the May 5 and 18 information below.

Spring is in the air — at last! And with COVID not currently an imminent threat (hopefully), you may very well see an uptick in patron visits this year. Preparing for a potentially very busy spring and summer is more important than ever, which means so is training staff to meet that demand. Make sure you train both current and new employees to handle the increase in patron visits and management responsibilities properly by taking advantage of the below opportunities. We’re currently scheduling fall trainings, so continue to check our Training Calendar for course dates!

April 22 — Risk Management Best Practices for Day Camps at Aquatic Facilities (Webinar)
Aquatic facilities can provide hours of fun for day-camp participants, but member experience shows this activity comes with risks. Providing a safe and enjoyable day of aquatic recreation means your agency must proactively plan, and coordinate the use of best practices by both camp and aquatic staff.

May 4 and 5 — Safe Operation and Towing a Trailer
Every day, park operations and special event staff use trailers to move equipment, materials and supplies. If you overlook the required skills and unique challenges of operating a trailer, you may be opening the door to property damage and/or operator injury as well as injury to other workers and patrons.

May 5 and 18 — NEW — HELP for New and Part-time Supervisors (Online Learning Center)
This course is for new supervisors and those who need to learn or refresh supervisory basics without attending the full-length HELP 1 or HELP 2 classes. It begins in our Online Learning Center (OLC) where participants first view a series of six videos (30 minutes) that highlight common HR challenges faced by supervisors. After viewing them, they can then register for a virtual Mentoring Check-in session (two hours, $25 cost) from our Training Calendar that provides the opportunity for discussion and Q&A with one of our Legal Services attorneys. The videos and mentoring session registration dates for 2022 will be available in the Training Calendar the week of April 25.
